About the Story

Your great uncle left you a pub in his will, but the pub is dusty and deserted. Where are all the customers and what is that strange moaning coming from under the floor?

The game starts in a broom closet. There's a note pinned to the wall with a knife. Reading it reveals that your great uncle's ghost is haunting the pub and he won't leave until you make him his favourite cocktail.

Mix drinks, satisfy ghost, May 26, 2021
by Andrew Schultz (Chicago)

In Pub Adventure, a ghost tasks you with making them a drink (a zombie, of course.) There aren't a lot of puzzles, and I was fortunate enough to avoid the guess-the-verb problems other peopl found (in fact I was glad there was no final verb to guess once you got the ingredients,) so I got through quickly. If you just explore and pick everything up, you should make it through without much trouble. For instance, two items you need for the drink are more or less sitting around in adjacent rooms.

The note and knife from PunyJam's required first room make things pretty straightforward, though I in fact was amused by the additional challenge of deciphering the torn note(Spoiler - click to show) if you didn't take the knife first. The game also has two bathrooms, and it doesn't feel like overkill.

I was a bit disappointed you couldn't (Spoiler - click to show)EAT OR DRINK any of the ingredients -- that was certainly the sort of thing the authors could find a funny response for. I suspect they will, if they ever write a bigger game.

Unless I overlooked something, this is the only PunyJam game where you actually have to mix a drink in a pub. I suspected there'd be more.

A short and simple adventure assembling a cocktail, May 17, 2021

This PunyInform game was made by a parent-child team, and it's pretty complex for a game made that way, but not as complex as most finished games made for competitions are.

Your pub has been cursed by a ghost until you make a drink for them. Each component of the drink is found by solving a different puzzle.

The number one thing the game could use is more feedback from testers, who could have caught things like undescribed objects, exits not listed in the room description, variations for trying to figure out what to do with the shaker, etc.

Like another PunyJam entry Arthur's Day Out, Pub Adventure is very bare-bones. Lots of nouns that are described but cannot be interacted with and the occasional guess-the-verb difficulty. Nothing game-blocking though, and the story, about the ghost of a pub that wants you to make its favourite cocktail, has a good sense of its own absurdity while rarely becoming frustrating.
