About the Story

This program is a simple adventure game [which was shipped with the BBC Master microcomputer on the "Welcome Disc" along with other games and utilities].

The aim is explore the world which is revealed to you by the computer and to find the hidden treasure.

The computer will describe your surroundings, possible routes which you may take and what objects are at hand.

You give instructions to the computer using one or two words. For example to go north you could type GO NORTH or NORTH. You can collect objects which you come across by saying GET KEY or TAKE KEY.

Typing INVENTORY will give you a list of the objects which you are carrying.

In certain cases abbreviations can be used to save typing. N,S,E,W,U,D can be used for NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST, UP and DOWN. INV can be used for INVENTORY.

Don't be afraid to experiment with a wide range of words. Only in this way will you discover the vocabulary of the game.

It is indeed simple and short, December 22, 2015
by jwhitham (York, England)

This is a two-word parser game from 1986. I don't have much information about it, not even who wrote it, or why they gave it the same name as the game that obviously inspired it. I first played it at school on a (then-new) Master micro - it was shipped with that machine on a demo disk, probably intended as an introduction to the machine's capabilities.

The game is not complicated. Unlike the more famous "Adventure", it takes place mostly outside, though the layout of the outside world is reminiscent of Adventure. The goal is to find one treasure. The game ends as soon as you find it.

No bugs are evident, but the game is short. Descriptions are very sparse. The game is quite forgiving, it doesn't seem to be possible to get stuck. There are no difficult puzzles. It's all just a matter of finding objects and using them in the right place. This game could be a short diversion if you are looking for something simple and old-school. It's a good example of the sort of hand-crafted parser game that could be written in BASIC within a week or two.

Error Experienced - was unplayable online, November 24, 2022

I didn't give this a star rating because I couldn't play it. Not sure if the author knows, but when I tried to play online I received the following error multiple times. You may want to look into it? I was all set to play it.
