The setting is fantastic (and mentioning Ligotti in the blurb is a sure way to catch my attention). The story moves forward in tiny, inching steps, constantly having to pause for a rest, and at first even large apparently "game-changing" moves (Spoiler - click to show)simply don't. After a certain point (Spoiler - click to show)the locale does in fact change, showing that the cycle of grim work can be broken, but there's always another cycle to get trapped in beyond the first cycle; maybe shoveling skulls forever isn't the worst job in the world after all.

(This didn't work quite right for me with firefox--after about 2/3 of the way through the links stopped working. It was fine with safari, though. I don't know why. It is definitely worth finding a browser that lets you see the whole thing.)

Interesting that you should mention that the links stopped working. I had that happen to me both times I played, but I assumed it was because my connection on this computer is rubbish. I'd be interested to hear if this has happened to other players.

I'm sorry to hear that, that's weird and unintended. I've heard of that happening before but it's definitely not universal and I'm not sure why it's happening here, because I'm using roughly the same CSS as previous games and the overall code is much simpler than most of my games. I'll look around again when I have time. Until then, pressing backspace a few times until the links start working again might be a possible fix.

I just tried it again on a different browser, and it worked! (It worked on safari for me, not on firefox.) I'm going to update the review slightly.

I would be interested in knowing if/when this is fixed; the links stopped working for me twice on PaleMoon browser (which is built off an earlier version of Firefox), even after I deactivated HTTPSEverywhere and Ghostery add-ons and backspaced through to active links.

But I loved what I got to play so far.

i don't know how to fix that but i made a version that has all the items and starts in week 5. don't know if that's too far but maybe it'll be helpful if you want to see end stuff. :) http://aliendovecote.com/uploads/twine/cheatskull.html

At the library, I used Chrome to play and (Spoiler - click to show)I made it to the second town, and then it's like, 'You totally didn't find that goddess lady', so I was wondering if there was another ending to find. :D Thank you! I loved the mood of this game and totes wanna see if there's other things I haven't uncovered yet.

Is that the end? Getting established in the second town?

Maybe someone else can answer, because I'm not sure. I only played through to the end once. :}

Ah, thanks for getting back to us about that.

I've certainly never had that happen before with any of your games, and I doubt that it's your fault. Might be a hosting issue, but I really don't know enough about the technical side of things to know how to fix it.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'm looking forward to playing the game again and seeing what I can find.
