I got into IF around 2000, due to being broke and have crappy computer and internet connection... IF's free and small to download, so I got into it by playing "World's Apart" by Suzanne Britton, it was kinda verbose, kinda strange, but I loved it.

From then on I explored a various other works, using competition winner's list as my guideline and found many jewels.

I took a break from IF for a few years but now I have a renewed interest in seeing what new work has cropped up during my break!
