Sardoria, by Anssi Räisänen
Enjoyable Fantasy Romp, January 22, 2016

Sardoria is a rather standard (although rather clicheed) fantasy adventure. You're a villager who must warn the king of an upcoming attack. However, the guard's don't believe you. Therefore, you get thrown into the cellar. It wouldn't hurt to include some sort of introductory text, but all you get is a welcome message. The characters (most of them) seem more like cardboard cutouts. The ending is a little abrupt; Who's the strange wizard? What happens afterwords? Most puzzles only have one solution, and none of them provide any feedback (you usually just get a "nothing happens" sort of message). It's a bit too short for my liking; I would've liked the game to be a little larger. Maybe I'm just nitpicking. Overall, however, I thurroughly enjoyed this game.

The Thing About Dungeons, by Brendan Patrick Hennessy

Buggy, somewhat Jokey CYOA, January 22, 2016

When I found The Thing About Dungeons at textadventures.co.uk, I'm not sure what I was expecting. Whatever it was, The Thing About Dungeons didn't deliver. Yeah, the text is somewhat humorous. Other than that, the game is rather buggy: The displayed text is littered with "bad condition" errors, references to different "paths" through the story ((Spoiler - click to show)warrior path Vs. wizard path). Therefore, the game came across as a bit confusing. (Spoiler - click to show)Why, at one point, it told me that the rabbet demon, which I had just killed, was coming closer and that I had better run away. At the end of the game, it said that the somehow-resurrected rabety thing ripped my heart out. Perhaps this game would be better if the author removed the bugs. It could also do with an extension; most of the game is spent reading about the "actions" I performed to get to the bottom floor; I would've preferred to choose whether to kill Monster X than to read "You killed monster X and stole treasure Y." You see, The Thing About Dungeons is that it's a game in need of major improvement.

Jarod's Journey, by Tim Emmerich
Good Fiction, but Not Enough Interactive, December 23, 2015

Most people who've reviewed Jarod's Journey talk about how "it doesn't have any puzzles" or "it's too religious". As a Christian myself, I find Jarod's journey to have an almost-decent story (what little there is). I'm just wishing that the game were more Interactive. Oh, sure, there's a bit of interactivity. (Spoiler - click to show)("Ok, Jarod can go to city #1, or city #2, or city #3. Then, Jarod can do this, this, or this. When Jarod leavs the city, he has to figure out what God was trying to teach him. That's all, folks!") Had this been a short story, it would've been of average quality; as an IF game, it just doesn't work.
