Experience Without Wisdom, May 22, 2011by AmberShards (The Gothic South) On the quality of the writing alone, East Grove Hills ranks as stellar. The characters are well-defined, believable, true-to-life, and pitiable, even though the main character (narrator) can be hurtfully sarcastic. The feel is high-school angst captured to a T, without being preachy, ridiculous, or done to excess. You can feel it soaking into your pores, if you've forgotten what it's like, or radiating out of them when the words find their brothers beneath your skin. Was this review helpful to you? First off, it takes a lot of training to safely take down a shooter without putting yourself or others in extreme danger, or accidentally hitting other people. And shooters typically open fire without warning, so unless you are extraparanoid (and being in this state is not a good thing for yourself and your relationships with others), you won't be able to prevent the initial massacre. The best way to stop shootings would be to prevent them in the first place, through more mental health funding and more funding to make communities and people's lives better, thus massively reducing the amount of people who are unhinged enough to be shooters in the world and U.S. |
