On the subject of the 'cultural knowledge' puzzles, I would definitely recommend taking a long time to play with the (Spoiler - click to show)pocket watch at the start of the game, because it contains the answers to a significant number of these, including the coat-rack puzzle (which I did manage to solve, despite having no knowledge of the works of Fred Astaire) and the 'Little Nash Rambler' (which I did not solve, but once I saw it in the walkthrough I realised that it should have been obvious, because I had already written down a list of (Spoiler - click to show)the songs that the video screens play).
