The Tiny House Review, April 5, 2010

To begin with, I haven't played many IF games and when it comes to reviewing this is my first. I had a different view of this game because I was one of the tester players and it was my job to find the things that make the game more difficult then intended. The first time I had taken many notes about some of the things that needed to be changed or at least altered/made more clear. After those changes were made I found that my focus went from trying to find the issues to actual enjoyment of the game.

I found the premise interesting and intriguing. The game play was very comfortable and natural in the language. As mentioned in the summary of the game there is a way to make the game unwinnable and I fell right into that path so needless to say that was a frustrating moment of defeat yet a teachable moment.

The interchanging of the clothing made the game interesting in the middle. I enjoyed the different responses the characters had to the clothing. I would like to have seen more of a use for that throughout the entire store rather than just the middle.

Overall I enjoyed the game. It was exciting to see what happened to the baby and husband and the way it was displayed/written made it that way.

This game should be taken off the site because IT IS NOT FINISHED. Likewise, your review should be removed because it's on a game THAT IS NOT FINISHED. If this game was abandoned or never meant to be finished, it would be different, but this whole page clearly indicates that the game is in beta. You and the author are abusing this site!

Anyone who reviews the game at this point knows that their review will have to either be altered significantly or discarded once the real thing hits, and so your review functions only as buttkissing the author in public. I understand that may not have been your intention, but that's how it comes off as. Stop abusing this site!

Is a game every really "finished"? To me- the game is finished. You can get from beginning to end, it has been alpha and beta tested by several people, it is not a competition entry- it is as finished as it is likely to get.

However, that being said, there are always things that could be missed, and all I'm asking for is some kind of feedback so that I can learn from my mistakes when moving on to the next project. Any such feedback would be accounted for- such as any missed spelling errors mentioned would have me go back and correct it, but the game is as done as it is likely to get.

I'll update the page so that it says "finished", if that would be better for you.

It's cool if it's "as finished as it is likely to get". I'd just ask that you not use the term "beta" because games often change a ton between "beta" and the state that this game is in now. I do applaud your openness to feedback and your willingness to keep tinkering.
