For those free spirits, The Bubble Bath has been built as an educational training camp that knows only one goal: to make the readers learn to love the fact that it is not they who drive the text; rather it is the text that is pulling them through the story by means of cheap tricks, false cursors, empty promises, invisible windows, and bad-mannered javascript codes that keep producing almost uncontrollable events. The Bubble Bath is a work by Susanne Berkenheger who uses the Internet Explorer 5 software flaws on the Windows 98 operating system to question our reading habits on the Web: how does the user react when he loses control of the Internet? text? Can we learn to "talk" with a virus?
Originally, the work was accessible only on Internet Explorer. If the user tried to access it using another browser, the following message appeared:
'the bubble bath' is set in the eye of the occupying power called Microsoft. It is necessary to use camouflage, ie PC and Internet Explorer.
Once activated, the work triggered the appearance of a multitude of pop-up windows where the "shark75" appeared, a fake virus taking control of the user's computer. Unable to contain the "shark75", the surfer had no choice but to let himself be carried away by this one, discovering through the new windows the story of the strange battle being played between the work and the reader.
It is no longer possible today to visualize the work in its original state. Indeed, the evolution of the security features of the Internet Explorer browser and new versions of Windows simply prevent the work from working; the user trying to access it will only receive an error message. However, a Berkenheger text describing the "death" of the work and its failed reprogramming in 2006 is available on the Electronic Literature Organization website . The artist presents a beautiful tribute to the "ruins" of the Web, which The Bubble Bath is now part of.

A storytelling "virus" requires some outdated software and an emulator to play., November 27, 2019"The Bubble Bath" is/was a clever game which takes advantage of Microsoft Internet Explorer loopholes to make it appear as though your computer is being hacked/attacked by a malicious virus.
You will need a certain version of internet explorer/an emulator to play this game. (See INSTRUCTIONS)
